What should be the target weight loss in 1 year?

Why are so many people willing to put time and energy into finding new and improved methods of dieting, but won’t exercise or change their way of eating to get and maintain the weight they want? I mean I gained some weight and I am doing what is necessary to lose it and it’s a lot cheaper and more fun to see and feel the results day by day than taking some pill or eating some microwave ready made meal from some quick weightloss diet program. Is it just me or does that seem lazy? Think about how long it took you to put the weight on, its gonna take about the same amount of time to take it off and if you use some quick weight loss scheme you are just gonna gain twice as much back? Why not just exercise and change the way you eat?
